Consumer Fieldwork has a special tool for conducting virtual shelf-tests. On the online shelf products are displayed by photos and can be bought.
With the following demo version you can experience the look and feel of the virtual shelf yourself! This demonstration is only available in a German language version, but the productive tool is also available in other languages (like English or even Chinese).
Within the virtual shelf the respondents get a short instruction about the interaction with the virtual shelf. After starting the virtual shelf is shown. The products can be displayed in random or fixed position.
By hovering over single products with the mouse a preview with a detailed picture, a short description and (optional) prices is displayed. By clicking on a product it is placed in the basket. With another click the product can be removed again.
The budget (in demo: 10 Euro), or alternatively the number of products to be laid in the basket, is variable. Additionally, the time to choose products can be adjusted to simulate short decision times while standing in front of the shelf.
The usage of the virtual shelf is intuitive and easy to understand for respondents. While doing the test there are no waiting times, as the testing material is preloaded: The testing conditions are similar for users with modem or ADSL/broadband communication. Exploring the usage experience shows that the task is clearly understood and that the interaction with the virtual shelf does not cause problems for average consumers.
The virtual shelf delivers valid results within a few days for new product designs within a given competition situation at the shelf and/or effects of a relaunch for the product range.
